24 Apr 01 Consider the following ideas to get your boss to realize your value: 1. Emphasize your strong points (e.g., never missed a day of work, never tardy, always looking for more responsibility...). Everybody has them! Remember, you are selling yourself. 2. Always dress professionally. Employees that dress sharp usually are sharp. I recommend you be careful here. You certainly don't want to dress better than your boss. You want your boss to know that you are a team player. You do this by dressing to fit in with your organization. 3. Would your organization be more profitable with or without you. Of course it is with you! Now, why specifically is the organization more profitable because you are there? 4. Work to improve your vocabulary. Words reflect our overall understanding of issues. You are judged by the words you use. A salesman friend of mine told me once, "you will be the same person you are today except for the books you read and the people you meet." 5. Finally, always give exceptional service. I'll give you an example from my work. Yesterday, the president's wife, who is an employee at our company, called me to say that the breakroom at our marketing center had ants. She asked me to check and see if we had any ant killer spray in my area of the plant. I checked but I didn't have any. I called her back to tell her that. That should have answered her request. However, I went on to say, I would gladly pick-up a can of ant killer spray and take care of the problem. I wish I could relay to you the emotion in her response. Suffice it to say that her response indicated that she was extremely grateful.

Hope this helps!

Good Luck
